Our Condolences and Prayers for China’s Earthquake Survivors
Posted by: Dan in Travel News, Travel Talk, tags: aid, China, cyclone, earthquake, military regime, Myanmar, survivorsCertainly, this post was not planned, as the powerful 7,9 earthquake struck in the Sichuan province of south central China very shortly after the previous article on China (Part 1) was posted. While the world was still reeling over the cyclone devastation in Myanmar, and in outrage over that country’s military regime “government” keeping out virtually all aid, the quake in China is that much more difficult to contemplate; as of this writing, almost 15,000 known dead, and over 40,000 still buried and missing (with time running out) weighs heavily on all. While we realize that China, unlike Myanmar, has plenty of skilled manpower to handle the disaster, we are saddened that the Chinese government stands alongside Myanmar on that government’s position that it’s better to let multiple thousands of its citizens die than to allow outside aid enter the country to help.
